LE COUX et BIGAROQUE
Coux et Bigaroque is a pretty small village in the Dordogne, settled at the centre of the Black Périgord.
The hilly countryside, boarded by the Dordogne River along seven km, offers a great variety of landscapes. While walking, discover the rich architectural heritage: 2 churches, 18 noble masters' houses and some ancient ovens, wash houses and fountains, work instruments, dovecotes, dry stone huts.
The village of Bigaroque deserves to be visited. Its ancient houses seem to slide down along the abrupt hillside until the river. By following its paths, you can get a glimpse on the Dordogne valley and an important lordship which has been dominated by a castle considered untouchable.
On the edge of the town, direction Le Coux, you can notice a peculiar XIIIth century barn (private), a toll and rest site for the "gabariers” who used to sail on the Dordogne.
Finally, take a walk on the hillside and let you delight by the hamlets that our ancestors have wisely built next to the forests and the agricultural lands (hamlets of Lanceplaine, Lagrave, Braguel, Langle).
You can also admire some poplars of Italy prevailing on the Dordogne valley.
From the village, you can access to numerous touristic places, such as: the medieval city of Sarlat, the cave of Lascaux, some troglodytic sites, the castles of the Dordogne valley, the colourful landscapes of the valley of Vézère...
